Whale & Wildlife Report | September 17-23, 2023

Our adventures had amazing encounters with some of our favorite species; mantas, oceanic whitetip sharks, and a whale shark!

We celebrated World Manta Day all week on our night manta snorkels! The mantas seemed to be in a celebratory mood with lots of barrel rolling and close-up action. We watched under the lights of our light boards as mantas swooped and flew by from the sea floor to higher in the water column. Despite some stronger currents, our captains and guides made sure we had great experiences. We’re looking forward to more exciting night manta adventures this week!

During our search for larger cetaceans on our dolphin and whale watching trips, we had an encounter with a whale shark! We estimated it to be around 35-40 ft long; around the average size for a full-grown whale shark. The individual was very curious, and we watched as it circled the area and we got some awesome looks from Artemis! We also had encounters with other species of sharks including oceanic whitetips, one of the sharks that we see more frequently.

As of Saturday, Fall is officially here. We’re looking forward to an adventurous autumn with our upcoming night manta snorkels and year-round whale watching trips!
