Whale & Wildlife Report | August 13-19, 2023

A week for whales off the Kona Coast! Our ability to search the deeper waters of the pelagic zone is what allows us to find whales year-round! Many whales, like our pilot whales this week, prefer deep water environments as opposed to nearshore areas. After 6 weeks of running trips on Artemis, we feel very appreciative that so many locals have joined us onboard, but we were surprised to find that many were unaware of Kona’s year-round whales! These whales are not often spotted from the beach, so a boat like Artemis with an offshore certification allows us to search greater areas and ultimately encounter more whales and wildlife!

This week our dolphin and whale watching trips and ocean adventures encountered pilot whales, bottlenose dolphins, Hawaiian spinner dolphins, manta rays, turtles, and a few oceanic whitetip sharks! Our guests enjoyed both on-vessel encounters on Artemis and in-water encounters during our private charters on Callisto. Shoutout to our adventurous Ocean Adventure guests and our guide Olivia for our amazing in-water experience with the oceanic whitetips! Whichever comfort level you possess, there’s an experienced crew and a trip for you with Hawaiian Adventures!
